New babies :-)
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:16:25 AM »
Beryl arrived yesterday, work already begun, seats and carpets removed as wet due to leaking sunroof, hoped to get a replacement interior. She runs but stalls as soon as you touch the throttle.

This morning the £100 car from Northamton arrived (the one I posted but nobody wanted), It turned out to be a de-ville with a beige interior in very good condition, so you all know where that will be going. The boot is full of parts, car has done 60,000 (very high) condition can be discribed a 'mature' ;)
The car will be stripped for parts, certainly not repairable without huge investment. Doors are solid as is the bonnet and boot. the rest is 'crusty'.
Engine is at present home to a million spiders, so no idea about condition. I am still very pleased for the price. The carpets, seats , door cards, Engine and gearbox are worth the money alone.

Beryl is my Avitar and also in 'my garage'. Looks like this:

The donor car :( looks like this, note unwashed, exactly as she arrived off the trailer after standing for 3 years in a garage. But for £100 it's complete and a boot full of bits too.

A bit crusty

Spiders webs galore

Dirty but in good nick.

Ok interior stripped, some parts of the car are actually not as bad as it first looked.
Floor is solid but been welded.
Battery area solid (shock)
Sills both been welded one side rotten at the front, not very solid at all.
around screen front and rear rotten, very rotten, no suprise there.
Front panel badly dented.
Doors fairly good as is bonnet and boot.

Car has a frame fitted to attach to a camper (anyone want it)?, no use to me. Just come over and remove it.

(Could be a wheelie bar fitted at the wrong end though.

Personally I think the car is too far gone. What do you think? Tons of parts and a great trailer to be made from the rear end.

Welding would cost more than the value of the finished car.

that looks a good bit of purchasing you have done there shame the red de ville is a bit worse for wear, like you said the engine is dirty but that i am sure will be fine along with all the running gear, glass  [-/etc.

Plenty of good bits on the car, well worth £100, certainly enough bits to sort out Beryl. Cold winter nights in the garage me thinks.

Done a fair bit to Beryl.

Carpets all removed as were soaking wet, I have cleaned and dyed them all black. Came up like new.

Interior bits all removed cleaned and sprayed where needed. Floor rust sealed.

Seats removed as all worn out and dirty and stripped to re-upholster (I have never tried but I will have a go, can't be too hard can it?).

New NOS RHD headlights fitted (I managed to buy a few sets   ;D  )

Window trim removed and resprayed.

To do list:-

Work out why indicators don't work
Get the car running  :D, Turning over but won't run.
MOT
Sort out the couple of small rust patches.

pleased with the car, although suprised by the couple of rust patches so soon after a full respray :-

*******************************

The other car, Mmmmm as you may remember I totally stripped the car, Half got dumped, the back end is slowly changing into a trailer project.

Plan on having it the same colour as beryl.
Bought myself a Mig welder now need to learn how to use it to finish the work I have started.

anyone got a rear chrome bumper spare?

Cheated  I bought a pair of leather seats (Ebay). Look like they should go in OK. I will need to remove runners from old seats, the seats are only 4CM wider than originals, so should be OK.

Tommorow clean up the leather, then next week out with the angle grinder.

I had a play with the poor running, dies as soon as throttle touched.Plugs, timing, fuel seem OK. New carb and insulator on its way.

Too cold in the garage to do too much, where is this global warming when we need it?
