Stripped
« on: August 23, 2009, 11:21:23 AM »
I've spent the weekend stripping the 500F. The body has very little rust - a little around the bottom of the rear screen and a small amount under the bottoms of the weather seals on both sides. Sometime in the past it has sustained minor damage on the front passenger side and centrally on the rear engine support bracket. I'll try to get new panels for these areas locally, if not, I guess I'll try overseas. There certainly seem to be plenty of parts suppliers for these cars.
Next weekend the engine/transmission comes out, the hydraulics get removed and the steering box as well.
Once it is reduced to a rolling shell, I'll put it on a car trailer and deliver it to the panel shop who have helped me with other restorations.
The seats will be delivered to a local upholsterer for retrimming.
I've never learnt the black arts of body work or upholstery, so I entrust this work to local specialists. My 'expertise' is purely mechanical.
I've attached a photo of the floor.
